Margot Robbie’s role in “Bombshell” may have been fictional, but she used some real-world inspiration to get into character.
In an interview with E!’s Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet of the Golden Globe Awards Sunday, the actress discussed lurking on conservative Twitter to get inside the head of her character in “Bombshell.” Robbie, who plays a politically conservative young woman working at Fox News in the film, told Seacrest she did this to “to understand her (character’s) political point of view.” “I found Twitter to be a useful tool to see what young, conservative, millennial girls were thinking and saying,” she said. Though Robbie has different politics than her character, the actress said she never felt frustrated embodying a person who thinks differently than herself. “I just need to come around to how they see the world, and it takes a minute, and then it clicks, and they suddenly feel like a real person,” she said. Robbie revealed she made a fake Twitter account to observe what “young millennial conservative girls” were saying on the platform in an interview with Variety published Thursday. “I didn’t understand her to begin with,” Robbie told the outlet about her “Bombshell” role. “But my process is to do a ton of research, consider every single option, know every single situation, scenario, thought and motivation inside and out, so I can step onto set and then let it all go.” Review: Charlize Theron transforms into Megyn Kelly, blasts the Fox News patriarchy in ‘Bombshell’
