SINGAPORE – Opposition politician and lawyer Lim Tean was requested on Monday (Dec 16) to appropriate his deceptive Fb posts that implied that the Authorities spends extra on overseas college students than Singapore college students.

Schooling Minister Ong Ye Kung, who initiated the corrections, mentioned the Individuals’s Voice celebration chief’s statements that the Authorities spends $167 million on Singapore college students and $238 million of overseas college students are false and deceptive.

“The Ministry of Schooling’s annual funds is $13 billion, nearly all of which is spent on Singapore residents,” the Authorities’s fact-checking web site Factually mentioned on Monday. “The $167 million cited by Mr Lim refers solely to bursaries for Singaporean tertiary college students, and grossly understates MOE’s complete spending on Singaporean residents for training.”

The figures of $167 million and $238 million are due to this fact not comparable, the Authorities mentioned.
