ILLINOIS (WTHR) — LGBTQ historical past might be part of the curriculum in Illinois colleges beginning this yr.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed HB 246 into regulation in August.
The regulation requires that “in public colleges solely, the instructing of historical past of america shall embrace a research of the roles and contributions of lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, and transgender folks within the historical past of this nation and this State.”
The invoice is efficient starting July 1, 2020.
Illinois joins California, New Jersey, and Colorado in including LGBTQ historical past to its curriculum.
