Incarcerated Americans on the biggest problem facing America today.

In our first-of-its-kind political survey inside prisons, Slate and the Marshall Venture requested respondents three open-ended questions: What do you assume is a very powerful drawback dealing with the nation immediately? How a lot does your race have an effect on your political opinions? Have your political opinions modified since being incarcerated?

Respondents informed us how they’ve relied on—and generally come to disagree with—opinions of pals or relations.
